I’d Like to Right the Wrongs Perpetuated by Comic Book Men by Making Another Video but I Need Your Help

bigbardafree:

I’d like to make another 5 or 6 minute video showing real comic book fans enjoying comics in a way that isn’t gross or sexist or degrading (you know, how most of us enjoy comics). I’d also like to highlight the diversity of comic book fans because this community has fans of all shapes and sizes, ages, ethnicities, races, genders, sexual-orientations, etc.

That being said, I don’t know where to begin. If anyone wants to link me to youtube videos, or better yet if you’d like to take a video of yourself and introduce your LCS to show that comic book stores are full of a variety of people. Or if you have any good moments from comic book conventions or moments with friends or family that are comic book related, or you a clip showing off your comic/comic memorabilia collection. Just something short and sweet (or something I can edit down to something short and sweet, even just a “hi my name is ____ and i like comics!”) that shows that ANYONE can be a comic book fan and that the comic book community is actually a really great place.

You can submit things to my blog or send me an ask.

I’d like to start working on the video asap, but I’m going to wait until next Thursday  to start (for convenience) so if you’re planning on making a video at your LCS you can do it on Wednesday.

And if you submit a personal video let me know who you want me to give credit to for being in/making the video (it can be more than one person and you can tell me to use tumblr names or real names) so I can put it in the credit reel at the end (and if it’s okay I’d like to put the link to your tumblr(s) on the post, too).

Thanks everyone!

So many of you might not have heard, but my video was taken down from youtube for copywright reasons.

I’ll see if I can upload it anywhere else, but I’ve decided this isn’t even about Comic Book Men anymore (well it is in a loosely related sense but there’s a bigger problem).

What I’m asking is that, if possible, you send me a clip of yourself saying why you like comics, who your favorite character is, a shot of your LCS (local comic store), etc.

This is now about showing the world that the comic book community isn’t just  made up of “overweight, meek, mousy, guys.” This is about taking our community back from stereotypes (meek, overweight, mousy guys you’re included, too, but you’re not the only type of comic fan out there and you know it).

Please send me or link me your videos. The world needs to know that the key demographic of comic fans is a GREAT BIG DIVERSE BUNCH OF AWESOME PEOPLE.

You can also email me your file at bigbardafree@gmail.com.

If you can’t participate I’d appreciate at least a signal boost to get the word out.

Thanks!

Just a reminder. I only have 5 videos so far and I really want to be able to represent the comic book fandom as a diverse group of people and I encourage you all to please help. literally a 5 second video of just you saying “hi my name is _____ and i like comics” would be so appreciated. in light of the response i’m extending the deadline by another week so march 8 is the deadline.

Hey dudes!

It would be super cool if you could help my bro Barda out with her project!

and I also want to see all of your beautiful faces declaring you like comics (well, if you like comics, that is!)

bigbardafree:

today i was talking comics with a kid in my class and i described my feelings about wonder woman and superman kissing by saying “it’d be like if superman and supergirl kissed” and he looked so taken aback and disgusted and was like “oh gross” and i was like “yes my feelings exactly”

Do you know what that means?

It means that..

DEVIANTART IS TAKING 20% OFF OF EVERY COMMISSION YOU DO

So, no. I won’t be doing commissions on Deviantart anytime soon.

This has been a warning to anyone considering doing commissions on Deviantart.

NOT COOL.

  • I’ve been doing commissions for over 7 years, without the help of anyone’s useless middle man program. My prices are already set ridiculously low because buyers don’t have much pocket money to spare in the first place!
  • Now DA wants to cut in and skim 20% off the top? Sure, I could charge more so I don’t lose any money, but that means the commissioners are paying more for no logical reason!
  • Oh, and why would you even involve the POINT SYSTEM? Seriously. This little redundant. I don’t want anything to do with the point system. I’ll stick to using REAL currency, thank you.

In conclusion? I really hope there’s no poor soul out there that’s falling for this bull. So I’m spreading the word. Beware working artists and commissioners! DA wants to suck the life out of you!

Well, first of all, WELCOME TO THIS FANDOM! i hope you brought tissues
Okay, this is gonna get a little tricky for you because there is a lot of back reading, but honestly, it’s very 90’s and imho, pretty fun to read.
But here’s a rough chronology:
World’s Finest Three - This is basically the first time Tim and Kon meet and partner up on a mission for the first time.
Young Justice: (Start with issue 0) This is where the majority of their interactions happen during their younger years and where their relationship grows from irritating acquaintances to best friends 5eva
Tim’s and Kon’s individual series: Are good for getting to know the character intimately, but theyrarely appear in each other’s series
Teen Titans v. 3: This takes place when they’re older, after leaving Young Justice. A solid series, but you will come down with at serious case of debilitating feels in places. (Also, I would read Identity Crisis anywhere between issues 1-23ish)
Identity Crisis: Okay, so this isn’t about Tim or Kon directly, and it’s not for everyone, but this series does have an event that has a enormous impact on Tim.
Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds: Again, this isn’t a really necessary read, but there’s an important event, though you could probably just skim over the wiki page and get the gist, but there’s only 5 issues, so it’s not like it’s long or anything.
Red Robin: This is an great series. Timmy at his best.
Superboy: The Boy of Steel: Okay, I cannot express how flipping amazing this series is. Francis Manapul’s art is just—I really love everything about this comic. Side note- read this between issues 1-7 of Red Robin.
There’s a few things that you can read for both Tim and Kon around this area, which you can find out on Tim and Kon’s wiki pages, and honestly, I’ve skipped around, just because there’s a lot of tie-in crap and I don’t give much of a crap about most of the things going on.
Superboy: This is Kon’s last series before the reboot, I personally found the art a complete letdown, but it’s Kon in Smallville, and there a few good moments.
Optional: Superboy and the Ravers: This takes place around the time of Kon’s first solo title. Horrifically 90’s in the best possible way, it’s a 19 issue series that’s just ridiculous but still kind of fun.
Okay, so that’s about all I’ve got, but feel free to ask around or anyone’s welcome to add to this list.
